That One is Over...

Today is 11-01-11. Just thought I'd put that out there in case you missed it. It's just kind of tricky.

Rick is a holiday gloomer. As upbeat and positive as he is in most aspects, he really hates holidays. He simply doesn't understand the concept. So for years we've hidden out, lights extinguished on Halloween --like sex offenders, for heaven's sake.

But last night we broke loose and dispensed candy. We emerged from our cave. And it was quite positive. We didn't have many treat seekers-- 20 or 25. Most of them were adorable little ones. Those older ones are a bit disconcerting. They come with king-sized pillow cases as tall as they are and no costumes. Some of them pulled up their hood like the Unibomber...lovely! Most were fairly polite though slightly surly, which seems to be the way some of them roll perpetually.

We have scads of candy left. I should send it to the soldiers over seas, but it would break the Rickster-Grinch's black little heart. I feel like a puffed up pumpkin. I might have definitely ate about a pound of those pumpkins made out of candy corn matter whatever that is. I tell myself it's not chocolate so it's not really fattening. Yeah, that's totally logical. My hands and feet are swollen and my face looks like a balloon. I'm a picture of loveliness.

I MUST resume healthy eating soon before I explode. And speaking of frightening tales (wink, wink), I'm reading a delightful book--The Graveyard Book. It is a young adult or adolescent book, but I am captivated. The print is bigger than normal (which my ailing eyes appreciate), eerie without being psycho, and full of delightful characters. It's clean and clever. I'm almost finished and have enjoyed the graveyard tale immensely. It was mentioned on the lovely Larainy's blog. She's a gem and so is this book. Thumbs held high!!

I must try to convert Halloween decorations into fall flourish. Oh, and stash that treacherous candy somewhere out of sight. Maybe Lola can hide it for me. "Oh, Lola..."

I'm in the same boat as you...Llod likes to hide in the dark on Hallowe'en. This is our first Hallowe'en in Lethbridge so I didn't know how many kids to expect. We ended up with 2! I've stashed the bulk of my candy stash in one of the kitchen cupboards and I'll leave it here when we head back to Edmonton tonight. But I'm afraid, not before I've disposed of some of it internally!

We love those candy pumpkins. Brian goes through those like crazy. We didn't have any trick or treaters. What am I supposed to do with all this candy?

We have fewer trick or treaters every year, and most of the ones that do show up we don't recognize?
This year I went against my better judgement and bought the stuff we like....bad idea!
My husband is like Rick, only he reserves it for Christmas, and I absolutly love the holidays!
I stopped by your daughters blog, those boys are just to funny. And that baby! He is so sweet :)

I'm going to reward you for calling me "lovely" by either eating all your candy pumpkins or sending you some more. Your choice.

You know, I read "adult" books (meaning classics, not heaving-bosom stuff!), but more often, I find myself going back to YA literature. It's so innocent and fun. If reading is sometimes about escapism...well, who wants to escape into another adult's weird mind? Go back to being a teen! Much more fun.

I know, I ate too much Halloween candy, too. Blame it on eating for two...?

And I like the new background on your blog. Very festive. :-)

I'm glad to hear you came to the other side and joined in the Halloween festivities. Delighted you had a positive experience. Getting rid of the leftover candy is always a chore, though. But in keeping with the holiday spirit, a little over indulgence is required. So DIG in. I won't tell.

The only reason I even ackowledge the holiday is because my granddaughter was here. Otherwise, it would have been lights out and off to a movie.

Hey just take the candy to church on Sunday and put it in a bowl in the hallway - act like you've never seen it before. It will be gone - Hee hee!
