The Heat Is On

Unfortunately, with the scorching heat in Arizona it was bound to happen some time this summer: a baby was left in a car and died yesterday after her parents forgot her in the rush of returning from church. Soooo  sad!

I judge not, but only remind to keep track of little ones and pets in this heat. When the temperature is in the low 100s within minutes a closed up car can reach 200 degrees. Frightening! We just can't afford to forget our little ones for even a minute. It haunts me.

Lola and I went for a SHORT walk this morning at 7:15. It was already too hot to be enjoyable. Barley is finally enjoying the mister, I water the garden twice a day, and I try not to go anywhere after noon. It's ugly hot. Ugly! Last year we came here in the heat but we had no living things that needed attending outside then. It's a whole different story this year. I'm still sort of shaky from walking in the heat.

Gardening in hell is very different than I'm used to also. I tried to find books at the library but I didn't see anything that specifically talked about gardening in Arizona or hostile climates. My daughter found books in Las Vegas about gardening there and what grows best, etc. There is some information online but I'd like to have something in print with pictures, etc. I'm better with something to hang on to. Wish I were smart enough and I'd write a book. Trouble is I don't know anything yet. My daughter is also composting. Do you compost? It's fascinating but looks messy and stinky to me. Do I want to contribute to rot within my boundaries?

Hope you're having a marvelous Monday. I realized this weekend that I need a gimmick. You know like Monet Monday, Wordless Tuesday, whatever. I got nothin'. I'm at the mercy of inspiration and that is pretty sparse. I'm open for suggestions.
