Fatal Error

Rick's and my breakfast talk included but was not limited to face lifts. There was an ad on TV for those knifeless redos. I don't know how it's done, but they shrink up the sag and smooth out the wrinkles without cutting.

Rick said, "I wonder how much that costs." (meaning for ME, not him, I assure you)

"I know I replied. I need it. I'd rather use the money for that than a new kitchen floor. But, honestly, why do I need to look good. I never go anywhere and no one ever looks at me anyway."

"You went to the library last night...Yeah, I guess you're right," he mumbled and then went back to his breakfast burrito.

My big outing at the library was for a visit and book signing with Arizona's and Washington's own J.A. Jance. I've never been to a book signing before.( I know, I know...what is it with me!) I really do enjoy Jance's books and she was within 5 miles of me, so off I went.

I got there fifteen minutes early, but that was late because almost all the seats were taken and I was number 157. J.A. (I think it stands for Judith something) was entertaining, irreverent and worth my time for sure. She even sang a song by Janis Ian--"At Seventeen" about homely girls who must rely on skills rather than beauty to succeed. I appreciated that and could identify, sadly. She also introduced us to her rescued daschund Bella who was extremely likeable.

So I waited with all the white hairs who nodded and laughed at her tales. They knew all her characters and series and all about her website. I've read many of her books, but I don't have the characters committed to memory, I'm afraid. I must do better...

She signed my book. Spelled my name wrong, but no worry. I'm sure she was tired. And who am I anyway, to think that my name should be spelled correctly by a famous person. Maybe if I'd have had that face lift, she'd have viewed me differently. But she did sing that song...Oh, well...
