"...I can't help it that I'm so popular."

Yesterday I took the advice of another blogger and placed a counter on my site. I wanted to know who and how many did (or more likely didn't) visit my blog. I am a little embarassed to admit that I care. I'm not popular in the real world--Facebook, church groups, literal friends--so why would I imagine I would be popular as a blogger.
So, anyway, after loading the counter what did I do? I checked my blog endlessly to see who goes there. My findings--I'm the only visitor. But I really racked up the numbers. Yep, that counter tallied up every one of MY visits. What a waste of time! Why do I do things like that?
Last evening while I should have been watching the President's state of the union address as I was watching a dvr'd episode of "Biggest Loser," I received a text message from a close family member who is ticked off at me. She's mad over something I might have said (ok, definitely did) during our Christmas visit. It was off-handed, typical-of-me sarcasm. I didn't intend to offend. But I did. So since Christmas there's been some silence and awkwardly stilted conversations. I get her message! I can't explain every thing, but now it's managed to escalate into an inter-familial incident. It hurts me. I know she's hurt and mad. It's ugly. (The fact that I blog it so poorly doesn't help me solve the situation.) It hasn't been cured by my endless apologies. I'm stubborn. She's stubborn. What a mess! My grandmother used to say, "If they don't get over it, they'll be mad a long time." I'm not sure that Grandma's advice is psychologically correct today, but it seems to be the best advice I can draw from right now...
