Coyote in the City

Yesterday on my way home from visiting teaching, I saw a coyote running down the side walk right in a residential area. He was fat and healthy looking. He didn't seem afraid at all as I drove by.

I'm sure he was up there by the golf course eating bunnies or small dogs and cats. I always tell my daughter and husband that the coyote, wolves, and other predators were here first. We're the intruders. This land was theirs before we encroached.

When it's Christmas time it's almost impossible to escape the sentimentality and anticipation even when you know it really is just another day. That's what my mom started saying after Dad died and especially when she had to move out of her home. It's just another day.

It's just that the world tries so hard to make it a cherished day, and when it's not, it hurts for a minute. I'm sure that's why my mom wanted it to feel like just another day. But it really isn't.

You're right about us encroaching on the animal's territory. Makes you wonder how they survive, when we keep doing it. Christmas is a day filled with much anticipation. Unfortunately, we do lose sight of the fact, special as it is, it is just another day. take care.

We keep a BB gun on the back patio to shoot the coyotes off the back wall when they are trying to get into our back yard. I like watching them but I really don't want one coming through my doggie door to feed on my cat. My dad is coming over for Christmas so it's going to be a good day over here.

We get coyotes in my dad's neighborhood, but they're mangey and awful. Every six months or so, we have a big problem with them killing people's pets. So sad. :(

No, it isn't just another day.
It's the best day. I wish I was the kind of person that was ultra organized so that I didn't spend the time doing things that weren't as important as sitting quietly, listening to music ans sitting in front of the fire.

Hugs!
Hope you enjoy your day.
